A Poem for David
Written by his mum

He had a smile that was brighter than sunshine
and a heart that was big as the seas
He had love that was deep as an ocean,
and left wonderful memories.
Though his life was brushed in heartache,
he painted the darkness with dreams
And showed through his beautiful spirit,
that life’s never as bad as it seems.
As a child he was followed by chaos,
and trouble rode in its wake
The choices he thought were so clever,
were seldom the best ones to make.
He thought of the fun and the pleasure,
consequences danced out of his mind,
Though his intentions were never malicious
and ambitions were never unkind.
So often in death we are sainted,
our faults are forgotten too soon,
But the person that then is created,
is remote as the earth from the moon.
With all of his issues and problems,
the world’s still a far sadder place
Now the spot that was his is now empty,
an ache in a big barren space.
His riches were friendships and family,
his home was the wide open road
And a glass that seemed empty to many,
to him was a life overflowed.
He had little in life that owned him,
few possessions to chain him down,
He was always the king of his castle
and his son was the joy in his crown.
He had a voice that was touched by magic,
with harmonies flowing like rain.
Through his faith he is singing in heaven,
one day we will hear him again.
He is free from the body that failed him,
free from the pain of each breath,
And with happiness dances in heaven,
and for that we are grateful to Death.
